Why I ask you such seemingly random questions in a homeopathy consultation

You walk into a homeopathy session ready to talk about your headache and suddenly I’m asking about your dreams, your fears, and whether you prefer the beach or the sea.

What is going on?!

We’re building a full symptom picture.

What is a full symptom picture?

Homeopathy doesn’t treat a diagnosis alone, it looks at you as a whole person. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of Homeopathy, spoke about understanding the root of an issue. In simple terms, if we can understand why something started, like your headaches, we’re much closer to finding the right remedy to help bring your body back into balance.

And yes, that often means the headaches begin to ease too.

That said, it’s not always possible to clearly identify a root cause. Life is layered, and things aren’t always that neat. That’s why I ask so many questions, some that feel a bit random or even strange.

I’m not just looking at the symptom you came in with. I’m looking for patterns across you as a whole person.

What am I listening for?

Physical symptoms

  • What does it feel like? (sharp, dull, burning)

  • Where is it?

  • What makes it better or worse?

Modalities (these are often key in finding the right remedy)

  • Time of day

  • Temperature preferences

  • Better for movement or rest

Emotional landscape

  • How you respond to stress

  • Do you want support, or to be left alone?

  • Irritability, overwhelm, withdrawal, anxiety

General tendencies

  • Sleep patterns

  • Appetite and cravings

  • Running hot or cold

  • Thirst

  • Digestion

  • Energy levels

Two people can have the same type of headache, but need completely different remedies based on everything above.

Why the “strange” questions matter

It’s often the smallest details that guide the prescription, not the obvious complaint.

Someone might be prescribed a remedy not just because of the pain, but because they’re completely thirstless, or always wake at 3am.

Whether you want company or prefer to be left alone… whether you cry easily or hold everything in… these details can point directly to the right remedy.

What I’m really doing as a practitioner

I’m looking for patterns, not isolated symptoms.

I’m gently figuring out:

  • Is this something you’ve always had?

  • Does it come and go?

  • Or is it something completely new?

By exploring your mental, emotional, and physical health together, I’m matching your unique picture to a remedy profile.

And this is where things start to shift. When the match is right, the body can respond in a really supportive way.

How you can prepare (for the homeopathic inquisition!)

  • Notice what makes things better or worse

  • Pay attention to mood shifts

  • Don’t filter what feels “irrelevant”

  • Be honest, even about the embarrassingly messy bits

If something feels too weird or too small to mention… that’s often exactly what I’m looking for.

Final thoughts

I often hear, “I’ll be a terrible homeopathy client. I don’t know the answers to any of these questions.”

Please don’t worry. You don’t need to have it all figured out.

My role is to gently guide the process. We piece things together together and from there, support your body in finding its way back to balance.
